Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- I have read the "Copyright Notice" and the "Privacy Statement" and agree to these terms.

Copyright Notice
mdwPress is the academic publisher of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Authors who publish with mdwPress agree to the following terms:

The author confirms that the work submitted for publication has been created solely by them and according to the principles of good scientific practice. After acceptance by mdwPress, the submitted work will be published Open Access online (and, if agreed, additionally in print). The name of the author will be visible in the publication. mdwPress reserves the right to determine the specific placement and visual design of the naming.

mdwPress commits to transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing (according to the principles of the Directory of Open Access Journals: https://doaj.org/apply/transparency/), and expects all authors to share this commitment. mdwPress chooses the layout, registration, digital access and, if applicable, the dissemination (in print) and archiving of the publication. If agreed upon, the fees involved are detailed in a separate invoice to the author. As a non-profit service, mdwPress does not remunerate authors at any time, unless otherwise agreed. Neither publication fees nor royalties are paid to the author.

With submission, the author guarantees that the work is their own original creation and does not infringe any other copyrights, property rights or performance rights of third parties. Should third parties assert copyright or similar claims against mdw, the author holds the mdw completely harmless. mdwPress is furthermore entitled, in the event of a cease-and-desist order or a notice due to an infringement of copyrights or performance rights, to immediately take the respective publication offline, either temporarily or permanently.

The author agrees that the work will be subject to a digital check for text identities, e.g. plagiarism. For this purpose, the work will be transmitted in pseudonymized, secure and encrypted form to a recipient in the United States of America. For this purpose, mdw has agreed to standard data protection clauses pursuant to Art. 47 par. 2 c) DSGVO. The storage and deletion of the transmitted data is carried out in accordance with the legal provisions.

For the submitted work, the author grants the mdw a non-exclusive, irrevocable license, transferable to third parties and sublicensable by mdwPress, geographically unrestricted and limited in its duration to the period of protection under copyright law, in particular with regard to the rights of reproduction, distribution and public access. The right of (first) publication in all electronic formats is also included. mdwPress is entitled to publish the work Open Access under a Creative Commons license chosen in accordance with M&M's Open Access and Copyright policy (default license: CC BY-NC 4.0). In any case, the license permits others to share and reuse the main body of the work, at least for non-commercial purposes of preservation, text and data mining, education, research, and dissemination in the original language.

Beyond that, the rights of the author are not affected. In particular, the author is free to enter into separate, additional agreements with third parties for the non-exclusive use of any version of the work (e.g. in institutional or subject repositories), with an acknowledgement of its publication by mdwPress.

The Authors are encouraged to post their work online (e.g. on their personal websites or on a preprint server) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and increased citation of the publication.
Privacy Statement
Data processing within the framework of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna publication services is done for the purpose of covering the entire publication process including submission, assessment and publication. For the administration and publication of scientific works we will process your following personal data: personal master data when registering titles for publication (academic title, name, institute, information specific to the publication), personal master data for the inclusion in the Integrated Authority File (GND) (academic title, name, gender, year of birth, place of birth, profession, institute), communication data (name, user name, e-mail address), contract master data, customer history and IT user data.
The processing of the data takes place to implement the contract with you or to implement pre-contractual obligations, legally based therefore on art 6 sec 1 lit b GDPR.
The personal data is at first processed by mdw staff members, and thereafter, if applicable, by cooperation partners, as named on the websites of the publication services. Your scientific work as well as your name, your academic title, your institute, your e-mail address and information specific to your publication will be published on the basis of the contract and will be made publicly available. It will be saved for the duration of the contract and beyond that for the time any possible legal claims or statutory obligations may exist. Data, which have to be archived in accordance with the Federal Archive Act, will be stored for an infinite period of time.
Your rights
Regarding your personal data you are entitled to the following rights under Art 15-21 GDPR: right of access, right to rectification, right to erasure, right to restriction of processing, right to data portability, right to object. In addition, you are entitled to contact a supervisory authority (in Austria: the data protection authority, dsb@dsb.gv.at) in the event of complaints about data protection violations.
